"I’m so glad I came to you. I thought I was going to be homeless and you’ve turned that around so quickly. Thank you so much."
- Carrie
Carrie had recently fled to Bristol to escape her violent boyfriend and to her terror he’d tracked her down. Thankfully he was arrested, but this meant that Carrie lost her emergency housing as she was deemed ‘out of danger’ and wasn’t from Bristol. Carrie was pregnant, scared and about to be homeless, with no one to turn to.
The van team responded quickly. Ruth comforted and reassured her and I made sure she had access to a phone and promised to be in touch the next day. The following morning, I found a private housing provider and rang Carrie. She went to the assessment and was very relieved to be offered a bedsit that day.
Two days later, Carrie came to drop-in to meet Rujina. She wanted to start making changes to her life. They talked through Carrie’s needs and her options for alcohol treatment and pre-natal care. They both knew it wouldn’t be easy, but Carrie was ready to make her brave first steps.
