What a night! Our cheeks are still sore from laughing so much. Last night, we were delighted by five fantastic funny women as funds were raised for One25. Hosted in the beautifully re-furbished Bristol Beacon’s Lantern Hall, the stands were bursting at this sell-out show. The night was kicked off by the enlivening local comedian Dani Johns who MC’d the night keeping, us thoroughly entertained throughout. First in the line-up of funny women was Amy Mason, a Bristol comedian who amused us with her deadpan wit. Next up was one of our headliners of the night, Harriet Kemsley who had the room in stitches.
We then watched a short but captivating video about One25 before cheering our fabulous CEO, Jenny Riley, onto the stage. Jen spoke so passionately and deeply about the women we support at One25. She said:
“We need everyone in this city and beyond to know about One25 and the women… I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing up tonight to shine a light on these women, to show them love and to celebrate them for who they are – amazing, beautiful and courageous women.”
After a short interval we were back to another local legend, Emma Coyne, who wowed us with her quick quips and the night was rounded off by the wonderful Laura Lexx, who had everyone heartily laughing at her honest and hysterical set.
The night was a complete celebration of women and raised a whopping £7,877 for street sex-working women in Bristol. These women face multiple disadvantages including homelessness, addiction and poor health. But they are also some of the most resilient women you could ever met. They are survivors.
