We are delighted to see Gill named in the Queen’s birthday honours list for her services to vulnerable women.

Gill started as a volunteer at One25 15 years ago and became a staff member in 2005. She’s worked in a variety of different roles over the years including: running drop-in; coordinating our army of steadfast volunteers; and now as CEO, she is the captain of our ship. Her fierce dedication to the women that One25 exists to support has shone throughout and we’re delighted that her tireless work has now been recognised in this way.

"One25 has been a major part of my life and I guess I feel so fortunate that I have options and choices, unlike many of the women who use our services. So that is what drives me, and I feel privileged to have a role I feel so passionate about, and to work with a team of people who are so supportive and hard working.

We have seen some incredibly sad things. Women have died and some have got very sick. But for every sad case we have seen another amazingly happy one – and that is what keeps you going."

- Gill Nowland MBE

Modest as ever, Gill is determined to share her award with all of the passionate and committed staff, volunteers, trustees and supporters, as well as the many brave and strong women who put their trust in One25 as they strive to rebuild their lives and escape the streets.

Thank you Gill, or is that Ma’am (just kidding!)
